There are more than 7 million Deaf and hard of hearing people in the United States. They are two times more likely to be victims of domestic violence and sexual assault than hearing people, and face cultural and communication barriers to hearing victim services and other systems-based responses. “For Deaf, by Deaf” victim services – services that are offered in American Sign Language and center Deaf cultures – are the most effective approach to meeting the needs of Deaf survivors. In this webinar, you will learn about Deaf cultures and communities in the United States; the experiences Deaf survivors of domestic and sexual violence face with hearing services and systems; and explore ways STOP administrators can support “Deaf, by Deaf” victim services and help hearing programs provide more culturally and linguistically specific services to Deaf survivors.
